(Zoologie) Espèce de bÅ“uf (Bos frontalis) de l’Inde et du Tibet. Le gaur (Bos gaurus) fut longtemps classé comme une espèce distincte du gayal. Les grands quadrupèdes sauvages de la famille des taureaux de l’Inde et des contrées indo-chinoises et de Malacca ont été plus minutieusement classés ; dans le nombre, il faut citer le gayal ou gyall. (Journal officiel 1er janv. 1873, page 7, 2e colonne)
